Sample the best local produce at the Taste Tamworth Festival
Held every April, the popular Taste Tamworth Festival showcases the very best in local food and wine, from top restaurants and produce to outstanding chefs, growers and vineyards. Enjoy 10 days of food and festivities, including the Warehouse Pop-up Bar, Farm Gate Trail and The Long Lunch.

Situated in the verdant agricultural belt of North West NSW, Tamworth and its surrounding small towns are an exciting food destination. Not surprisingly, this region is famous for its healthy focus on livestock, dairy and pasture as well as its cool-climate wines.

Many of the restaurants in the Tamworth area take advantage of the region’s fine local produce. The Pig & Tinder Box, one of the region's oldest pubs, serves up share plates, woodfired pizzas, and new-school takes on old-school pub food.

Head to CH on Peel for a fabulous fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours and a fab selection of local wines. Gregory’s Restaurant offers top-notch cuisine in an idyllic country setting.

The Old Bell Tower is housed in an ornate church, serving up great hearty breakfasts and lunches, as well as great coffee.

There are plenty of places to buy fresh produce from the farm gate or from regular growers' markets on weekends. Join the weekend ritual of shopping at the Nundle Craft Co-operative for homemade cakes, biscuits and preserves, homegrown vegetables, farm eggs and crafts galore. You may also find seasonal niche produce such as olives, nuts, fish farming, honey and berries.

At Arc-en-ciel Trout Farm near Nundle, you can take a tour of the farm before catching your own juicy trout for dinner. At Odgers and McClelland Exchange Stores, you can buy locally produced Middlebrook Honey, Bellata Gold pasta, Demeter flours, and Gwydir Grove olive oils.

Tamworth is also a popular wine region, with more than 20 cellar doors in the New England region. The unique climate is due to the subtropical influence of summer rainfall combined with temperate cold winters and is the only designated wine region in Australia that has both cool and warm-climate vineyards. Chardonnay, pinot gris, riesling, shiraz and pinot noir are all regional favourites.

Other varieties include tempranillo and gewürztraminer. Don't miss delicious tastings at the cellar doors of Merilba Estate Wines and Eastview Estate, which is also home to a distillery and brewery. For locally-brewed Golden, Pale, Brown and Dark Farmhouse Ales, pop in for a tour and a tasting at the New England Brewing Company.
