Tamworth Marsupial Park & Adventure Playground
REGISTER YOUR VISIT: For contact tracing purposes, all visitors to Tamworth Marsupial Park & Adventure Playground are required to register their visit at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/registermyvisit.
Named as one of Budget Direct's "Best Tourist Attractions for Kids" in 2019, the Marsupial Park is a native animal experience unlike any other in NSW. Children can get close to kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos and emus, spot the species in the free-flight aviary and hand feed the Indian peacocks. Located at the end of Endeavour Drive, East Tamworth, the 14-hectare park has a dedicated group of volunteers who help maintain the park and entry if free. Donations are welcome and help the park grow. The park is open from 8.00am to 5:00pm seven days a week.
The community-built Adventure Playground has two distinct areas: one for under-5s and another for over-5s. It encourages children to use their fine and gross motor-skills – and of course, their imagination. There are barbecue facilities and bathrooms and entry is free.
Tamworth Miniature Railway
Just down the road is the Tamworth Miniature Railway. Train rides operate on the third Sunday of every month for just a couple of dollars – make sure to wear enclosed shoes (no crocs). Located adjacent to the Botanical Gardens at the top of Piper Street, East Tamworth.
Viewing Tamworth from above offers a pause for perspective and reflection. The best vantage point is the Oxley Scenic Lookout, a picturesque spot to have a picnic and see the city and the Peel River Plain extending to the Liverpool Ranges. Don’t forget your camera to take snapshots of the panorama.
Tamworth Community Men’s Shed
The Tamworth Community Men’s Shed is operated by a local committee and provides an inclusive environment for men to come together to socialise, share their skills, develop friendships and encourage one another in a practical environment.
Drop in to see what they’re working on, get some local insight or just make some new friends.
Opening hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
