Home to a range of world class facilities

Sporting life in the region is busy, and the team sports calendar is packed with training, coaching, clinics, games or carnivals every weekend.

Major sports facilities include Tamworth Sports Dome and Tamworth Regional Sporting Complex. Your visit to the region could include cheering on an exciting basketball game, grabbing the paddle for a social game of table tennis, or your children taking advantage of the school holiday activities at the Dome. You might prefer to watch others do all the hard work, and catch an athletics carnival or a hockey match at the complex.

If you want to kick a footy around, choose any of the region’s many green spaces and sports grounds, or the kids might try some tricks at a skate park in Tamworth, Barraba, Manilla or Kootingal.

The city and villages have many walking and cycling tracks, so you can stay active or explore the area at your leisure. One is the scenic Peel River levee bank track – a fully sealed, gently undulating track along the river, suitable to walk, run or cycle. Street and cycleway maps of the city and villages can be found on the council website. Nundle has a new Riverside Walk – a shared walk/cycleway that follows the lovely Peel River.

Tamworth has caught the running fever – a 5km parkrun is held at weekends, and Tamworth Running Festival in August includes a walk, fun run, 10km and half-marathon, as well as a 60m dash for cash.
