Ten of the region's best cocktails and where to find them

This we know: everyone loves a cocktail.

A cocktail instantly jazzes things up, bringing a hint of class to an otherwise standard night out. It takes your tastebuds on a round-the-world trip, without you needing to leave your seat and making you feel like the world is your oyster.

A cocktail is also a really good excuse to get together and treat yo’selves.

Whether you’re a long time resident or you’re just in town for a little while, the Tamworth region has a cocktail for every occasion waiting to be discovered and we’ve found ten of the best to get you started!

the village - Hopscotch 2 350x350

“The Village” at Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar

Inspired by Dwone Jones (DJ) and Jay Lynch’s background managing restaurants and bars in Manhattan, Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar’s New York Margarita Menu has a selection of six cocktails to choose from.

Popular for a long lunch under the soaring trees or to kick off your Friday or Saturday night, our pick is “The Village” – a sophisticated twist on the Margarita using fresh, muddled strawberries.
Sweet and Sour - Tudor Hotel 350x350.jpg

“The Sweet & Sour” at the Tudor Hotel

Drop into the newly renovated Tudor Hotel and treat your tastebuds to their most extravagant offering, “The Sweet & Sour”.

Combining freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, a hit of vodka and notes of cranberry and lime, it’s a fun drink that’ll play to your inner children with its sherbet rim and sour straps to garnish.
The Deco - Deco Wine Bar and Restaurant 350x350.jpg

“The Deco” at Deco Restaurant & Bar

Despite the fabulous art deco-inspired surroundings, you’ll float away to a tropical paradise whilst sipping on “The Deco”.

It’s the fruity signature cocktail at Deco Wine Bar & Restaurant on the corner of Peel and Brisbane Streets, and is made from a shaken blend of Chambord, Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Bacardi, Apple Juice, Pineapple Juice and Lemon Juice poured over ice.
One Way or Another - The Albert 350x350

“One Way or Another” at the Albert Hotel

The Albert Hotel has new owners and a new cocktail menu, including a refreshing take on the classic Tom Collins – “One Way or Another”.

Made using Bombay Sapphire dry gin, St. Germain Elderflower Liquer, lemon, sugar syrup and soda water, we recommend indulging in this one alongside their delectable duck pancakes. You won’t be disappointed!
Espresso Martini - the Welders Dog 350x350

“Espresso Martini” at The Welder’s Dog

Though the Welder’s Dog name is synonymous with craft beer and their “Drink less. Taste more.” philosophy, they’ve got you covered if you’re looking for something a bit different.

Combining two of our favourite ingredients - locally roasted coffee beans and award-winning (and local) Dobson's Distillery vodka – they’ve created an espresso martini on tap. Made using a nitrogen gas to create a "shaken, not stirred" style, it’s a delicious take on a crowd favourite, and we recommend you wrap your lips around this martini stat!
Pino-jito - Safari Club 350x350

“Pino-jito” at Safari Club Bar & Grill

Get a taste of life on safari when you try the “Pino-jito” at Safari Club Bar & Grill. Inspired by Elliot Dube’s South African heritage, it’s a twist on the classic Mojito and combines spiced rum, Bacardi, fresh lime, mint, pineapple and coconut, all served in a vintage tiki glass.

It looks fresh, tastes fresh and will leave you feeling fresh!
The Ron - Coal Bunker Bar 350x350

“The Ron” at Coal Bunker Bar

The intimate and refined Coal Bunker Bar at the Quality Hotel Powerhouse is the home of a number of decadent cocktails. With its bespoke American oak timber furniture and leather seating, we recommend settling in and ordering a round of “The Ron”.

Finished with honey roasted peanut praline, shaved Belgian chocolate and edible 23 karat gold leaf, it’s a sophisticated taste experience you won’t forget.
The White Walker - the Pig and Tinder Box 350x350.jpg

“The White Walker” at the Pig & Tinder Box

If you’re feeling fruity and fun, grab a seat on Peel Street in the sun, or a stool inside the incredible old bank building and order yourself “The White Walker” at the Pig & Tinder Box. It’s a light cocktail bursting with flavours including lychee, vodka, lime and sugar syrup, and a cocktail you’ll enjoy no matter what time of day!
Margarita - SSS BBQ Barn 350x350

“The Margarita” at SSS BBQ Barn

Though you’ll have heard of SSS BBQ Barn for their famous slow cooked barbeque ribs, did you know that they have a cocktail menu to compliment their mouth-watering food offerings?

The drink we’re most excited about is their “Margarita”, made using fresh and juicy limes, agave tequila, luscious Cointreau and a secret ingredient that’s bound to impress. Served in a salt rimmed glass, you’ll be dreaming you’re on the beaches of Mexico in no time!
The Old Fashioned - the Tamworth Hotel 350x350
“Whiskey Old Fashioned” at the Tamworth Hotel

If sipping on a cocktail whilst lounging by the fire in a beautiful old pub is your idea of a good time (and it should be!), drop into the Tamworth Hotel and order their “Whiskey Old Fashioned” for some winter indulgence.

A drink that’s been around for more than a century, this cocktail manages to balance the malt of the whiskey with both bitterness and sweetness.
