Competitors, spectators and fans will be galloping into Tamworth this week for the 2019 Australian Stock Horse Society (ASHS) National Show.
Starting on Thursday, 28 February 2019, the 10-day event will be free for spectators and held at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC), bringing the best in Australian Horsemanship to Tamworth for a display of strong competition and fantastic entertainment across the board.
Chairman of The Society Mr Larry Cutler said, “We are excited to be coming to Tamworth for the industry’s largest Australian Stock Horse event. The Program ranges from camp drafting to dressage and show classes, time trials, a Feature Horse Sale, entertainment and so much more, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be great.”
For spectators, the highlight on the National Show calendar is the Gala Night on Saturday, 2 March. This year, the evening is themed “The Breed for Every Need” and will explore the relationship between horse and human. Professional equine entertainers performing awe-inspiring horsemanship, thrilling stunts and a hint of comedy are a few of the things that visitors can expect to see at the Gala Night.
The show will be opened by special guest Kate Everett, National Recipient of the 2019 Australia Day “Local Hero” Award along with her husband Tick. The Everetts are long term breeders and supporters of Australian Stock Horses. Their anti-bullying advocacy has put a spotlight on this national issue following the tragic death of their teenage daughter, Amy “Dolly” Everett last year.
A Fundraising Auction will be held on the Gala Night with the aim of raising over $20,000, with a very large majority of the proceeds to support Dolly’s Dream, the organisation that was brought to life by the Everett family in the wake of Dolly’s death.
The equine and livestock industry has also faced challenges this year due to the crippling effects of the drought and now the devastating floods in Queensland. Mr Cutler has extended a very big thank you to the generous cattle donors from the region, whose support allows this fantastic event to be successfully run.
Families will also love the Freestyle Dressage held on Friday 1 March at 6pm, where Australian Stock Horses and their riders dress up and perform to music during the evening’s competition.
“Our industry, like many others, has had its fair share of ups and downs and whilst the Show is a competition, it’s really all about coming together for a good time and supporting each other - competitors, spectators and fans alike.
“We encourage anyone and everyone to come along, bring the family and enjoy all that the Show has to offer,” concluded Mr Cutler.
For those interested in the ASHS National Show but unable to attend, the event will be broadcast via a livestream on both the Australian Equine Network and ASHS websites.
