Food and wine lovers should mark Friday 6 April to Sunday 15 April 2018 in their diaries after Tamworth Regional Council announced next year’s dates for the popular Taste Tamworth Festival.
The program of events this year saw the return of the popular Taste in the Park and Pop Up Bar events, as well as a new addition – Dinner in White. The 2018 event will see the return of crowd favourite The Long Lunch on Sunday.
Tamworth Regional Council has also released some interesting statistics from this year’s event, which saw the Pop Up Bar draw its biggest crowd in one night since the event started in 2014. Usually split across two nights, the decision was made to consolidate the event into one night and it paid off, with 268 people attending the event which was held on the lawns between the Powerstation Museum and Community Centre.
Taste in the Park saw over 3,000 people make their way to Bicentennial Park on Sunday 30 April to sample regional food, meet the producers, watch cooking demonstrations and relax in the garden bar. The dedicated kids’ area ‘Bite Size’ proved a huge hit, with the free cupcakes and pizza’s snapped up by the kids early in the day.
Tamworth Regional Council Manager Events Barry Harley said the event was a great success, drawing visitors from around NSW.
“For our ticketed events, we know that visitors came from Armidale, Central Coast, Liverpool Plains, even as far as Western Australia. Overnight visitation to these events benefits more than just the event. Visitors shop in our retail outlets, utilise our great coffee shops and help to keep tourism ticking over throughout the year.
“Back by popular demand next year will be the Long Lunch event, which was given a break for this year. We know people are keen for this to return, and we have some great local producers who have indicated they are keen to be involved.
“We will also have the great new space in Fitzroy Street to play with, which might see the addition of a new event in that area. It may not be the exact Flavours on Fitzroy that people have seen in the past, but a fun new take on that.”
Specific event dates will be released closer to the event. For updates and information, visit www.tastetamworth.com.au
