Council is calling for
applications for the 2017/2018 Destination Tamworth Regional Events Marketing
In 2016/2017 the program
assisted 14 events through financial and/or in-kind support, including social
media campaigns and advertising support.
Tamworth Regional Council
Director Business and Community John Sommerlad said the program aims to support
and nurture events that bring visitors to our Region.
“The Program is our way of
ensuring that festivals and events have support in promoting their events and
attract visitors to the Tamworth Region for overnight stays.
“Last year, events that
benefited from the support included Nundle Country Picnic, Rotary Dungowan
Village Fair and Motor Show and the Australian Country Dance Festival which are
fantastic events that showcase the varied interests of our community.
“These events provide
significant benefit to our economy and we hope that more event organisers apply
for support this year.”
The Program, now in its fourth
year, has grown from six applications in 2015/2016 to 14 applications in
2016/2017 with Mr Sommerlad saying they “hope to continue that trend this
“There are so many great events
run in our community and we encourage organisers to submit an application and
allow us to help you promote your hard work.”
The Program to date has
received glowing praise from its recipients. John Barwick, Convenor of the
Rotary Dungowan Village Fair and Motor Show Committee said their event “was a
resounding success far beyond our expectations.”
“Our success was in no small
way due to the professional marketing help given by Destination Tamworth. We
focused on promoting the Village Fair to families and it worked. The social
media campaign was fantastic.”
The total amount of financial
support on offer is $30,000 and each applicant can apply for an amount of $500
up to $5,000.
In order to qualify for
funding, an event must exhibit and be able to report back on three key focus
areas including the economic benefit of the event to the Tamworth region, an
increase in overnight visitation to the Tamworth region, and event
Applications are assessed in
accordance with the program’s selection criteria and funding will be allocated
depending on size and scale of the event and its economic and visitation
benefits to the region.
Applicants that are not
successful for financial support, may still receive in-kind support.
Applications close at 5pm on
Friday 18 August, with funding available for events being held up until 30 June
