Tamworth Regional Council’s tourism brand, Destination Tamworth, is on the move – literally – with a new key partnership ensuring it will be seen up and down Australia’s eastern seaboard.
A B-double truck from Tamworth-based Carey’s Freight Lines has been wrapped in eye-catching larger-than-life images of the Tamworth Region featuring the distinctive Destination Tamworth logo.
It was the big surprise attraction at a tourism stakeholder networking event at Tamworth Visitor Information Centre last night.
Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray described it as a “huge moving billboard showing off our Region to thousands of potential visitors”.
“This vehicle will be travelling from Tamworth to numerous locations on the eastern seaboard and back – all the while promoting our region as a destination for visitors,” he said.
“It’s an exciting opportunity made possible through a partnership between Council, Destination Tamworth and leading local transport company Carey’s Freight Lines. In the 15/16 financial year, we welcomed 481,000 visitors and we expect this to grow again this year.”
Last night, a social media promotion was launched calling on passengers travelling around Australia’s eastern states to keep their eyes open for the Destination Tamworth truck. Any passenger who Spots the Tamworth Truck, snaps a photo and uploads it to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #TamworthTruck has the chance to win a weekend in Tamworth staying at the Quality Hotel Powerhouse.
The #TamworthTruck was among a number of initiatives unveiled at the Visitor Information Centre which aim to enhance the experiences of visitors to Australia’s Country Music Capital.
The audience of tourism operators, hospitality business owners and community leaders also found out about new features at the visitor information centre including new signage on its street frontage, a new display detailing the origins of the Golden Guitar Awards and a new event wall designed to make it easier for visitors to know what’s on in the Tamworth Region. The Visitor Information Centre has experienced significant growth, with an increase of over 14,000 visitors to the centre this year already (compared to the same period in 2016).
Birth of the Golden Guitars tells the story of the origins of the iconic awards, the pinnacle annual event of the Australia Country Music industry and how the prestigious gold trophy was developed by the late John Minson and Max Ellis.
