The Tamworth Region is in North West NSW. The city of Tamworth is at the junction of the New England and Oxley Highways. It's an easy five hour drive from the Sydney CBD, and - thanks to the Hunter Expressway - a quicker, 3 hour trip from Newcastle.Tamworth is seven hours drive from Brisbane.
Tamworth Regional Airport is the largest of the regional airports in Australia. Tamworth is serviced by four airlines offering flights to and from Sydney and Brisbane. Tamworth Regional Airport has a cafe, airline lounge access, car-hire service desks, an ATM and WIFI. Short and long term car parking is available adjacent to the terminal.
The Tamworth CBD is about 10 minutes' drive from the airport. Taxis can be arranged on board your flight or when you arrive at the terminal.
Train and bus
There are a number of bus services in the Tamworth region, as well as taxis, hire car companies and coach tour operators. For up-to-date timetables and other details, contact the operators.
NSW TrainLink runs train and bus services to Tamworth, from interstate and from across the region, arriving at Tamworth Railway Station. A New England Coaches service will get you here from Coffs Harbour or Brisbane three times a week. From the railway station, the CBD is just a few minutes’ walk downhill, or a taxi can be arranged on arrival.
Within the city, you can bus it with Hannaford’s or Tamworth Buslines
, and the latter also does runs to some of the towns and villages around Tamworth. During the Country Music Festival, a bus shuttle service goes between the major venues and accommodation. New England Coaches also go to Moonbi and Bendemeer.

Tamworth Visitor Information Centre
is in the city’s south just off the New England Highway (also known as Goonoo Goonoo Road – say it like a local as ‘Gunna Gunnoo’). You can’t miss it – the Big Golden Guitar’s out front.
