The Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Archibald Prize is a household name, and has been one of Australia’s most prestigious art awards since it was first awarded in 1921. Bestowed on the best portrait painting of a notable Australian, it’s a who’s who of Australian culture, with subjects ranging from politicians and celebrities to sporting heroes, authors and artists.
In 2018, Tamworth Regional Gallery is delighted to bring the Archibald Prize to regional NSW audiences.
