Featuring a program of exciting events with the theme "My Culture, My Story", the Festival will include cultural tours, exhibitions, open days and more, sharing local stories and educating audiences about the traditions that have shaped our regional community.

Stories under the Stars is an opportunity to explore Kamilaroi astronomy in a family friendly event format, featuring Aboriginal storytellers, music and dance.

Bring your picnic blanket and the kids along to this special event and leave with a new appreciation of the stars and their role in Aboriginal navigation, storytelling and spirituality.  Warrambal (the Milky Way), Yarandoo (the Southern Cross) and the Dhinawan (Emu) in the Sky all have major creation stories associated with them. Learn some local star stories, their significance in Kamilaroi culture and what those stories said about the Kamilaroi people’s place in the world.

Time: 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Where: Tamworth Botanic Gardens - Piper Street, Tamworth

Manellae Collectibles – museum open days

Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 April 2018

Having spent over 15 years collecting interesting pieces of history, the Fletchers will take you for a walk through history in Manilla displaying items including old telephones, dairy equipment, sporting goods and so much more. The popular “Arnott’s Avenue” will also be on display, featuring Arnott’s biscuit tins from throughout the ages. Morning tea will be provided for visitors, and proceeds from the open day will be donated to cancer research.

To celebrate the Tamworth Regional Heritage Festival, Tamworth Growers’ Market will be relocating for one day only to the Little Paradise Gardens site of the 1880s on King George V Avenue, Tamworth.

In the 1880s, the 2.4 hectare gardens had become one of the region’s most popular places for entertainment with an aviary and small zoo alongside a pavilion hosting tea dances.

Come down and support local producers, perusing your favourite Tamworth Growers’ Market stalls in this iconic location.

Immerse yourself in an Aboriginal perspective through an experience rich in storytelling and traditional practices.  Learn more about the Kamilaroi people and how they understood and lived in harmony with our natural environment. The Kamilaroi Cultural Tour will visit Wave Rock, a significant local site, and explore the Aboriginal history of our region, its plants and animals, Kamilaroi beliefs and spirituality. Len’s tour will ensure that you leave with a different perspective and appreciation of your local area.

Goonoo Goonoo Station Walking Tour [ SOLD OUT ]

Explore the history and heritage of the region’s oldest property on a walking tour of the Village and Woolstore, including a walk-through of the stone store, butcher’s building and schoolhouse. The tour will be followed by morning tea at the award-winning Glasshouse Restaurant.

Please note, guests are to park and meet in the Glasshouse Restaurant carpark. This tour is not suitable for those with limited mobility and comfortable shoes are recommended.

Time: 9:30am sharp, morning tea approx. 11:00am

Cost: $33.00 plus transaction fee, bookings are essential.

The Tamworth Regional Heritage Awards recognise outstanding commitment and contribution to heritage conservation, adaptive reuse and interpretation in the Tamworth region. Enjoy a two-course luncheon and help us celebrate our region’s heritage.
